Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find a list of questions we commonly receive at Murrell Aero, organized by group. Don’t see the answer you’re looking for? Feel free to contact us through our “Contact Us” page.

Flight Operations

Only our Matrice 4TD aircraft is equipped to fly at night. Both our Matrice 4TD aircraft and all of our RPICs meet the requirements to operate at night under 14 CFR 107.29.

With specific exceptions, yes. Our Matrice 4TD aircraft is IP55 rated and can be flown in blowing dust and rain. However, we are required to maintain Line-of-sight (LoS) with the aircraft, and generally cannot fly in weather conditions below the FAA’s VFR minimums.

At Murell Aero, safety-of-flight is our top priority. If at any time you witness anything unsafe in our operations, please report the incident to [email protected], or call our safety hotline at +1 (520) 346-0321, Option 3.

Airspace in and around our service areas can be complex. To help set expectations, we’ve included snapshots from our flight planning software that show where operations may or may not be possible.

Areas shown in orange may be eligible for operations at restricted altitudes with FAA authorization. Areas shown in red generally indicate airspace where operations are unlikely to be permitted.

If you have questions about airspace in a specific location, please contact us through our Contact Us page and we’ll be happy to review it with you.

There are a few areas we service where we need little to no prior authorization before flying including: Bisbee, Benson, Tombstone, Sonoita (north of highway 82), Vail, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Wilcox, and Saint David.

We typically service locations that are no farther than a two hour drive from Sierra Vista, AZ. Certain exceptions can be made for pre-planned events and missions. For additional information and questions, please reach out to us directly.

Payment Information

The rate we charge depends on which aircraft will be flown. For our Mini Pro 5 aircraft that we largely use for photography and videography, we charge $100/hour. For our Matrice 4TD aircraft, we charge $200/hour. In each case, we bill to the tenth of an hour (6-minutes). In addition to our aircraft hourly rates, we may also charge mileage and a mobilization fee. For specific questions regarding fees, please feel free to contact us.

We typically send out itemized invoices via email after every flight. Our invoices accept a variety of online payment methods, including pay-over-time services through Klarna. We are also capable of accepting Zelle and AppleCash payments in the field. All payments are securely processed through Square.
